Miu Miu inspired scrap yarn shoulder bag

This Miu Miu inspired simple shoulder bag is the ultimate scrap buster. Use the magic knot to join your loose ends to make a mega ball of multi coloured yarn! They’ll be minimal ends to weave in and the magic knots are barely visible on the bag!

I’ve written this pattern for Aran weight yarn but if you want to use a different weight yarn you can easily work a longer or shorter starting chain to suit your desired measurements.

The pattern is written in US terms.

In US terms the stitch is called half double crochet. In UK terms the stitch is called half treble crochet.

How to make the magic knot

Notes on the pattern

The pattern is for a 9×6″ bag. If you’d like a bigger or smaller bag you can work a longer or shorter starting chain and then work more or less rounds.

Instructions in between * and * means that you repeat the instructions until the pattern says otherwise.

10 hdc means to make a half double crochet in each of the next 10 stitches.

3hdc means to make 3 half double crochet in the same stitch.

Ch1 at the end of each round doesn’t count as a stitch.

The pattern is continuous rounds without turning. You may wish to place a marker on your first stitch so you can keep track.

Materials

  • 5mm crochet hook
  • Aran weight yarn
  • Darning needle
  • Scissors
  • Bag strap

Instructions

Make a slip knot and ch32.

Round 1 – starting in the second ch from the hook, hdc in each stitch along until the last ch. Make 3hdc in the last ch (place a stitch marker on the 2nd hdc). Round 3 – Round 15 – Hdc in each stitch around. Place a marker on the first stitch of each round so that you don’t lose track. At the end of your final round, join with a sl st to the first stitch and fasten off.

Attaching the strap

Sew your metal bag loops to each side of the bag. Attach your removable strap using the clips.
